The dynamic nature of our environment used to confront us with ever-changing physical challenges. We humans learned to answer these challenges by moving according to the sensorimotor context. Sometimes, the proper motor response implied a strong and pow-erful movement. In light of peak external forces our structure perceives, processes and integrates sensorimotor information differently than in a calm environment.
Strength and power are two basic motor properties of human movement. Since Ida P. Rolf’s era levels of inactivity, general strength and other measures of human physicality have changed dra-matically. We as Rolfers® should be aware of the different challenges our bodies face in a modern environment and how strength and power present two pieces in a larger puzzle to foster structural integration in our clients.
In this course we will dive into the theory behind the anatomical, biomechanical and phys-iological properties of strength & power and why they matter. You will learn how certain peculiarities of our movement are derived from within the biomechanical congruency of our species and why strength & power are necessary qualities of human locomotion. From early on we will translate some of the theoretical concepts into hands-on experiences.
In various practica we will revisit the main anatomical structures and functional goals of the Rolfing®
Ten Series ™ to re-address them in view of a sensorimotor context that asks for vigorous physical activity. Additionally, you will be introduced to various forms of possible exercise interventions. In the end we will compile theory, our own first-hand experiences and table-work to synthesize when and where during the Rolfing® process we can/need to implement the concepts presented to further support our client’s integration process.
