If you wish to immerse yourself completely and are motivated to receive your Rolfing® Certification in the shortest time, then the Intensive format of the Basic Rolfing® Training is for you.
Full-time / Intensive Basic Training
The total duration of the intensive format training is 78 days, spread out over 9 months. Every class has up to a maximum of 22 students (depending on the phase) and the teacher to student ratio is 1:10. The intensive format is offered in Munich, twice a year on alternating years and is taught in English exclusively. Students from other RISI affiliated schools may transfer into the intensive training for Phase II or III after fulfilling all requirements for their previous training phase in their “home” school. These student exchanges are encouraged by ERA as valuable means of communication and network building within the International Rolfing® community.
The Three Phases of the Intensive Format
Phase I: Foundation of Rolfing®
- Duration: 15 days within 3 weeks
- Topics: living anatomy, movement, and touch
- Phase I is concluded by an admissions process consisting of an anatomy exam and an interview.
- After this first training phase you have the necessary foundation for the treatment strategy as well as structural and functional analysis.
Phase II: “Embodiment of the Rolfing® process”
- Duration: 33 days within 8 weeks
- Topics: In this section you learn about the traditional series’ theoretical background (“recipe”). You experience the 10-session series and have time to practice. You conduct the 10 sessions under supervision on your fellow students as well as experience them yourself.
- Interviews are held with students throughout and at the end of Phase II.
Between Phase II and III…
… two mentoring sessions are held (subject to additional fees) with a Certified Advanced Rolfer™ who is qualified to be a mentor.
- Duration: 2 to 4 hours each, depending on how many students participate in each session
- Procedure: You work in a group with up to 4 students
- Topics: Experienced Rolfers respond to your specific needs and work through topics that you have not yet completely understood.
Phase III: “Practical Application – Working with clients”
- Duration: 30 days within 8 weeks
- Topics: You apply your acquired knowledge and skills in a practical and goal oriented manner. Under supervision, you develop treatment plans and conduct the treatment series with at least two clients. Structural changes during the series are documented with photos and the results are evaluated and discussed.
- Interviews are held with students throughout and at the end of this phase.
After Phase III…
… the Basic Rolfing Training is complete. You are recognized as a Certified Rolfer™.
… you can work independently in a private practice.
… during your first year of working in your own practice you will be required to attend an additional three mentor sessions, concluding with the six-day Supervision workshop.
